Man facing charges after hitting train with vehicle; Blood alcohol allegedly over legal limit

Rex Andon, 23, of Austin is facing charges of gross misdemeanor DWI-operate motor vehicle-alcohol concentration 0.08 within two hours, misdemeanor DWI-operate motor vehicle under influence of alcohol, misdemeanor traffic collision-driver involved fails to stop for collision-driven or attended vehicle and misdemeanor driving after cancellation of his license.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, police were called at 12:36 a.m. on Tuesday regarding a hit and run on Eighth Avenue Northeast between 10th and 11th Street Northeast.
A white 2012 Chevy Malibu driven by Andon was heading west on Eighth Avenue Northeast when it went around a vehicle waiting for a train to pass and struck the train.
Andon and the passenger exited the Malibu and were picked up by another vehicle, Krueger said. Both were apprehended by police and Andon admitted he was driving.
While at the Mower County Jail, Andon took a breath test and was found to be over the legal limit, Krueger said.
The Malibu was located at a garage in the 700 block of 14th Street Northeast. It had sustained moderate front-end damage.
