Luella B. Schmitt, 98

Luella B. Schmitt, 98, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, at The Cedars of Austin.

She was born to Roland and Emma (Schroeder) Beach on Nov. 20, 1920, in Long Prairie, Minnesota. Lu met her future husband, Norbert Schmitt, while they were students at the University of Minnesota. They resided in Winona, Minnesota, and West St. Paul, Minnesota, before moving to Austin in 1956.

Lu was a homemaker and bookkeeper. She performed volunteer work as a Red Cross Gray Lady, was President of the Austin Country Club Ladies Golf, served as a member of the Austin Park and Recreation Department for 14 years, and attained the rank of Life Master in Bridge. She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for many years and later attended Cornerstone Church.

Survivors include sons, Dr. Norbert (Phyllis), Naples, Florida, Dr. Tim (Gingie), Wadena, Minnesota, and Steven (Betty Jo), Rosemount, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Lu was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Emma Beach; husband, Nobert Schmitt; and siblings, Wilma Beach, Sally Clavin and Harland Beach.

A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Mayer Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Cedars of Austin. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
