Law enforcement is advising residents not to travel if they do not have to due to poor road conditions and frigid temperatures.
“Travel is not advised if it is not an emergency,” said Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger.
According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, winds are causing snowdrifts on county roads, limiting snowplowing activity. Two Mower County squad cars have been damaged from hitting snowdrifts, with one suffering an estimated $2,500 to $3,000 in damage.
The Mower County Sheriff’s Office issued a no travel advisory Tuesday evening.
May and Krueger said their respective departments have responded to numerous calls of assistance to stranded motorists.
