Janette A. Lein, 91

She was born Jan. 22, 1927, at home in Skaim Hollow, Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Joseph and Thelma (Moen) Skaim. She was baptized and confirmed at the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. Jan attended Rocksvold Country School. She enjoyed growing up on the farm with her parents and 12 sisters and brothers. On a trip to California, while visiting her sister, she was “Queen for a Day” on the TV show with Jack Baily. Jan worked at the Decorah Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide, taking care of the babies in the nursery. She later worked at St Luke’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, and as a Home Health Aide in Austin, Minnesota. On March 15, 1958, she married Bob Lein, the love of her Life. They lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and later moved to Austin, where they lived for 44 years, and later to Onalaska in 2012 to be close to Karin and family.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the special trips up north each summer with the grandsons, as well as many other trips, including Norway with Kevin and Barb and Disney World with Karin, Tom and the boys. She also enjoyed her Norwegian heritage! She loved to make lefsa and flat bread and collected Norwegian carvings and rosemaling. She even did a little rosemaling herself. She loved to collect antiques and refinish furniture. Jan loved taking pictures and compiled many photo albums for her family to enjoy.
