Donnell William Greene Jr., 27, of Broadview, Illinois,was charged on Thursday in Mower County District Court with three counts of felony domestic assault by strangulation.

According to the court complaint, officers were dispatched on a domestic disturbance call at 6:09 p.m. on Nov. 19 to a residence in the 100 block of 11th Street Northwest. A neighbor reported hearing a “loud banging sound” and an altercation between a male and female residing in a downstairs apartment.

Officers made contact with a woman who claimed Greene had assaulted her. She said that she and Greene had been arguing at a residence in the 900 block of Second Avenue Southwest earlier that day. She said he then “attacked” her and strangled her for about 30 seconds, holding her against the bathroom door with his thumb on her windpipe before her cousin made him stop. The victim said he then strangled her a second time for about 12 seconds before her cousin again broke it up.

She said Greene then left the residence and she suspected he had gone to the residence on 11th Street Northwest to get his “stuff” back. When she returned, he was still there and she told him to leave. She said Greene swore at her and put her in a chokehold that lasted for about 30 seconds, making her “light headed.” He then left the residence.

Officers observed the victim had messy hair, a torn shirt and scratches on the left side of her neck. A warrant was then issued for Greene’s arrest.

Greene will appear in court again on Jan. 31.
