The Austin Daily Herald took home a trio of awards from the Minnesota Newspaper Association on Thursday, Jan. 24.
“The newsroom works hard to produce the best newspaper possible,” said ADH publisher Jana Norman. “The awards go to show how well they do.”
The ADH placed third in the category of General Excellence in the category of Dailies under 10,000 (subscribers), with judges calling it “an all-round good paper.” Another judge said, “Stories seemed timely, of great local interest, features good.”
The Herald’s Austin Living magazine also won third place with the March-April 2018 issue, featuring young leaders in Austin’s schools, in the Best Magazine for All Dailies category. The judges commented, “Rock solid cover photography and follow through inside the magazine. Lots of features with a good mix of themes. Great local touch with people pages up front. Not too many ads, but well placed with editorial content. Well done!”
Individually, Eric Johnson took second in the Feature Photo for All Dailies category for a photo of Austin High School volleyball players practicing outdoors at Todd Park. Judges praised the photo for its “great dramatic angle and color and light.” They also said, “Way to go out the norm and try something different. Nice!”
