Alice Jensen, 81

Alice Jensen, 81, of rural Sargeant, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2019, at Prairie Meadows in Kasson, Minnesota, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

(Mary) Alice Hatten was born on June 20, 1937, in Carroll, Iowa, to Arnold and Walburga (Rahe) Hatten. They later moved to the Brownsdale/Austin, Minnesota, area. She graduated from Pacelli High School and went to work at the Mower County Courthouse. Alice married Richard Jensen of Sargeant on May 28, 1960, and became a stay-at-home mom. She was very active through the years, working with the Mower County 4-H Program, Rural Youth and Sargeant Township Board. Alice was also the secretary at Evanger Lutheran Church for over 40 years. Alice’s passion was working with the American Legion Auxiliary, both at the local Hayfield Post 330 and district levels. Her favorite projects were the local spelling bee, which she initiated, and the Minnesota Girls State program.

Alice enjoyed playing cards, gardening, quilting, dancing to old time music, reading, traveling and puzzles – crossword, jigsaw and word searches.

Alice is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, Richard; children, Cheryl (Philip) Woodward of Pine Island, Minnesota, Linda (Rich Snyder) Jensen of Phoenix, Arizona, Mike (Betsy) Jensen of San Jose, California, and Grant (Scott Neitzel) Jensen of Afton, Minnesota; grandchildren, Billy, Claire, Tegan, Tyler, Sam and Riley; and siblings, Phil Hatten, Dave Hatten, Joe Hatten, Barb Mensink and Margie Sprick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Gene Hatten, Janet Hatten, Georgia Schramm, Don Hatten and Dan Hatten.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at Evanger Lutheran Church, 33554 660th Ave., Sargeant, MN 55973. Burial will follow at the church cemetery immediately afterward. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at Czaplewski Funeral Home, 501Second St. NW, Hayfield, MN 55940, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Hayfield American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Program or the Minnesota Girls State program.

The family would like to express its thanks to the Prairie Meadows and St. Croix Hospice staff members for the excellent care you provided to Alice. You made her very happy and comfortable all the way through her journey.
