Brownsdale Study Club
The Brownsdale Study Club met Dec. 19, at the home of Hazel Schlichting.
To open the meeting, Vice President Sharon Willis led the reading of the Collect. Secretary and treasurer reports were given. Nine members answered roll call to “How long is your Christmas card list?”
In old business, Fern Paschke made a motion to donate $50 to the Salvation Army food shelf. The motion was seconded by Hazel and passed. New business included Hazel presented some keepsake study club pamphlets sent to her from the family of former member, Marleen Swan, who had passed away in November.
An announcement was made that the price of stamps will be raised to 55 cents in January. Also, a warning was given to closely read and understand what you sign at your medical provider regarding what may or may not be paid for.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn the meeting. Fern will host next month. “Happy Birthday” was sung to Mary Gallaher.
Rena Perrigo gave the outside reading on Julie Andrews commemorating her 80th birthday by performing the song “My Favorite Things” using new, age-appropriate lyrics. For example, the song began with, “Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, walkers and handrails and new dental fittings …”
Mary gave the main topic of reading poems. She recited from her original book, “The Night Before Christmas,” which was published in 1949.
Hazel served Christmas treats.
