Schuster nets four goals as Packers down Worthington

The Austin girls hockey team received a strong effort from senior forward Jaiden Schuster as it beat Worthington 6-3 on the second day of the Austin Holiday Tournament at Riverside Arena Thursday.

Schuster scored two of her four goals in the first period as the Packers (4-9-1 overall) led from the beginning against the Trojans.

Worthington pulled within 4-3 early in the third when Schuster found the net to put the game away.

“Jaiden had a lot of energy and the girls really fed off that,” Austin head coach Carley Grunewald said. “She definitely was our leader tonight.”

Kylee Hanlon and Hannah McMasters each scored a goal in the win for the Packers and Faith Sayles had 29 saves. Austin had 33 shots on goal.

The Packers had lost six games in a row, but they now have two wins and a tie in their last three contests.

Austin will close out tournament play when it hosts Faribault at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
