Rochester man injured in I-90 crash; Alcohol allegedly involved

A Rochester man was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester after his vehicle was rear-ended on Saturday evening in Mower County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol accident report, Harvey Raymond Friedrichs, 23, of Rochester was driving eastbound at about 7:40 p.m. on Interstate 90 near milepost 193 in Dexter Township when his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was rear-ended by a 2018 Ford F150. Friedrichs suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Mayo Clinic by Grand Meadow Ambulance.
The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Meadow Fire and Police and Dexter first responders were also on the scene.
The Ford’s driver, Jacob Robert Kaput, 32, of Rochester was uninjured. A passenger in the Chevrolet was also uninjured.
The Minnesota State Patrol’s report indicated Kaput may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Kaput is currently in the Mower County Jail awaiting possible charges. A review of Kaput’s criminal history shows he is on probation for a felony DWI conviction out of Freeborn County and has other DWI convictions.
