The Hayfield girls basketball team turned things around, but it was a little too late as it lost to New Richland-HEG (2-1 overall, 2-1 Gopher) 48-47 on the road Friday.

The Vikings had trailed 28-14 with three minutes left in the first half when they battled all the way back to take a two-point lead on a Rachel Pack three-pointer in the second half. The Panthers held a one-point lead down the stretch and the Vikings (2-3 overall, 1-1 Gopher) were called for a travel and a would-be go ahead bucket with seven seconds left.

“Even in a loss, we turned a corner and things started clicking,” Hayfield head co-head Kasey Krekling said.
