The Austin boys basketball team opened its season with a 77-68 win over Winona (0-1 overall, 0-1 Big Nine) on the road Friday.

Medi Obang scored 29 points to lead the Packers (1-0 overall, 1-0 Big Nine) and Agwa Newest added a career-high 18 points.

The Packers grabbed a 39-36 lead when Nywesh connected on a three-pointer early in the second half.
