Mary Elizabeth Emerick, 93, passed away on Dec. 15, 2018, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born on Aug. 8, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Loretta (LaFountain) Nolan in Carleton, Michigan. After graduation, she worked from 1943-1945 at a plant in Michigan building Corsair Airplanes for the World War II war effort and was known as a Rosie the Riveter. On Feb. 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Edmund S. Emerick at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Carleton. Mary and Edmund farmed in the Carleton area until 1971, when they moved to Waltham, Minnesota. They continued farming in the Waltham area until retirement. Mary and Ed enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Florida, for many years. Following her husband’s death, she enjoyed her independent living at the Cedars of Austin. Mary enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, playing cards and her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her children, Ed (Linda) Emerick, Waltham, Carolyn (Tom) Birkholz, Maplewood, Minnesota, Ron (Roxi) Emerick, Zion Crossroads, Virginia, Bill (Genell) Emerick, Hayfield, and Dave (Tami) Emerick, Rochester, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, Rebecca (Jason) Tjelta, Scott (Amanda) Emerick, Jeff (Emma) Birkholz, Tim (Ruth) Emerick, Kristina Emerick, Brian (Laura) Emerick, Leah Emerick, Alex Emerick, Michelle Emerick (Rich Santana) and Steven Emerick; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edmund, in 2012; three brothers; and three sisters.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 2nd Street NE in Hayfield with Father Thomas Niehaus celebrating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at Czaplewski Family Home, 501 2nd Street NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service on Saturday at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
