Getting out and about for the holidays

With Christmas around the corner, events this are limited. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t find something fun to do.

Beginning today and running through tomorrow, the Mower County Senior Center will be holding its Holiday Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cookies, candies, pies and more will be ready to take home. Proceeds from the sale will go towards supporting the many things the Senior Center offers to the community. For more information, call 507-433-2370.

The Mower County Senior Center will also host a Christmas Dinner Party from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday. A traditional Christmas dinner will be served, featuring brown sugar ham steak or turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, garlic bacon green beans, yams, and dessert. Primrose Retirement Community is sponsoring the entertainment. The cost is $8.50 for senior center members and $9.50 for non-members. For more information or to sign up, call 507-433-2370.

For those seeking some active fun, Packer Arena will be open for public ice skating this weekend. The public can skate from 8-10 p.m. on Friday, 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, and 3:45-5:45 p.m. on Sunday. It costs $4 to skate and $1 to rent skates. For more information, call 507-433-1881.

For those who are going to be alone this Christmas, St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin is hosting the 21st Annual Christmas Day Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The dinner, provided by the family and friends of Peter Klein and sponsored by the Klein Family and anonymous donors, will feature ham, turkey, and all the trimmings. Transportation is available upon request. The meal is free, though the organizers ask that you sign up at St. Olaf Lutheran Church or call 507-219-1151 to make reservations so they know how much food to provide.

  • All You Can Eat Pancakes, 9 a.m. to noon at American Legion Post 91. Breakfast includes eggs, sausage, orange juice or milk, and endless pancakes. Tickets $8 at the door. Proceeds go to help veterans in need. For more information, call 507-437-1151.
