The Hayfield boys basketball team was able to hold off a late run by Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (3-1 overall, 1-1 Gopher) to win 50-48 in Hayfield Thursday night.

The Vikings (4-1 overall, 2-0 Gopher) led from wire-to-wire and they closed it out when Mason Tapp, who scored 31 points, hit two free throws to put Hayfield up 50-45 late in the game. Tapp has now scored at least 20 points in all five games this season.

“It was a big win,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said.
