Marleen J. Swan, 96, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at Ebenezer Ridges Care Center in Burnsville, Minnesota.
Marleen Julett Haseth was born Sept. 4, 1922, at home in Dexter Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Adolph Edward and Alma (Haarstad) Haseth. She graduated from Austin High School in 1940 before attending one year at Macalester College. Marleen graduated from the Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. She served with the U.S. Army as a nurse for 14 months, attaining the rank of second lieutenant. On Aug. 14, 1959, she was united in marriage to Manley Swan and the couple made their home in northern Minnesota, where Marleen worked as a nurse. The couple later divorced. Marleen moved to Brownsdale, where she was on the library board and volunteered at the blood pressure clinic. Marleen enjoyed working in her garden and taking time to read. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Dexter, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and did sewing for missionary work. Marleen was also a member of Brownsdale Study Group and the Women’s Missionary Federation. She lived her life as a woman of strong Christian faith and will be dearly missed by her loved ones.
Survivors include her daughters, Julie (Kendall) Davidson of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Lori Swan of Apple Valley, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Aaron, Eric and Anna; four great-grandchildren, Abe, Asher, Ali and Tyler; her sister, Annette (Orville) Engelbey of Ogden, Utah; sister-in-law, Diane Haseth of Austin, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Alma Haseth; her sisters, Noramae Roadfeldt and Doris Larson; and one brother, Edward.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, 66632 300th St., Dexter, MN with Pastor Rich Erickson officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
