Law enforcement is reminding people to use caution during the firearms hunting season after a deer slug was shot through the doorway and embedded in the wall of a Lyle residence on Sunday.
According to Mower County Senior Sgt. Investigator Steve Sandvik, a man reported the incident at 2:25 p.m. on Sunday.
The man said he left his residence in the 1000 block of Highway 105 in Lyle at 2 p.m. When he returned, he found that a .20 gauge deer slug had been fired through a door and was embedded in the wall opposite the door. The trajectory of the slug appeared to be heading up when it hit the wall.
Sandvik said the shot appears to have been accidental; however, the incident is still under investigation.
When walking in areas where hunts are occurring, citizens should wear bright orange as hunters easily recognize it, authorities caution. Hunters should be aware of their surroundings and backdrops.
Sandvik said the incident report will be forwarded to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Mower County Law Enforcement Center at 507-437-9400.
