Constance Sue Hayes

Constance “Connie” Sue Hayes of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at her home in Austin.

Constance Sue Carnell was born Aug. 17 in Springfield, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Bernice “Bonnie” (Schmidt) Carnell. Connie attended school in Comfrey, Minnesota. On Nov. 30, 1957, she married James R. “Ron” Hayes. The marriage was blessed with five children. Connie enjoyed her role as homemaker, wife, and mother. She also worked part-time at the YMCA and was a “semiprofessional” fisherwoman on Lake Little Darling. Connie had a sharp wit, loved watching tennis, bird watching, playing board games, card games, and computer/video games. She also was an avid reader, crocheter, and loved music and to sing. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

Survivors include her children, Heidi Sue (Gary) Peterson, Jacksonville, Florida, Daniel Patrick (Judy) Hayes, Rochester, Minnesota, Thomas Ronald (Bev) Hayes, Syracuse, New York, Michael Edward Hayes, Boise, Idaho, and Holly Ann (Steve) Berger, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Jayme (Alexander), Jacob (Sara Rosenboom), Eric (Ashleigh), Jonathan and Kyle; brother, Brad (Vonda) Carnell, Springfield; sister-in-law, Bev Carnell, Bloomington, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bonnie Carnell; husband, Ron Hayes; grandson, Joshua; and brother, Tom Carnell.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Bridget Sheely officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association, St. Joseph’s Indian School, or charity of donor’s choice.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
