The Austin Police Department is reminding residents that political signs are only allowed on private property after receiving complaints of signs being placed on city property.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, signs in front of residences can only be placed between the house and the sidewalk. The boulevard between the street and sidewalk is city property.

Krueger said that police have confiscated signs at Skinner’s Hill and will continue to confiscate signs found on city property. Police will attempt to notify the homeowner for any sign that is found on city property in front of a residence. Confiscated signs are brought to the Mower County Law Enforcement Center.
