Edward Terrill Stewart, 47, of Austin was charged on Wednesday in Mower County District Court with felony domestic assault.
According to the court complaint, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 300 block of Seventh Street Southwest. They made contact with a woman who said that she and Stewart had been arguing because he wanted her to drive him to Chicago and she had refused. She said Stewart had been drinking and threw beer in her face before punching her in the face. She then said he pushed her, tried to destroy her refrigerator, and damaged a vent above the stove. Police observed food all over the floor of the kitchen and noticed the woman’s face was red.
The complaint states the victim’s daughter confirmed her story. Stewart was not located and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
A review of Stewart’s criminal record shows prior convictions for domestic assault, violating a domestic abuse order for protection and damage to property.
Stewart will appear in court again on Nov. 5.
