Lois Quindt, 92, of Altoona, Iowa, died on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at the Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Lois Marie (Helfritz) Quindt was born April 8, 1926, in Lyle, Minnesota, the eighth of nine children born to Ben and Lizzie (Olson) Helfritz. She graduated from Lyle High School in 1944.

On March 7, 1948, Lois was married to Harvey William Quindt in Lyle. She spent 17 years as a military wife, living in Tampa, Florida, Orlando, Florida, Savannah, Georgia, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Westfield, Massachusetts, raising their two children, Connie and Tom. Upon Harvey’s retirement from the Air Force, they settled in Grinnell, Iowa, and later lived in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Lois was a breast cancer survivor and was active in her local churches and in the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, bowling, cooking, sewing and making clothes.

Lois is survived by her children, Connie Van Gorp of Altoona and Tom (Pam) Quindt of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Michele (Scott) Zeidler of Breezy Point, Minnesota, Chris (Lisa) Van Gorp of Prairie City, Iowa, Carrie (Jerry) Chiles of Altoona, Holly (Devin) Hunt of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Mark (Colleen) Quindt of Newton, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert (Beverly) Helfritz of Austin, Minnesota.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Harv; great-granddaughter, Riley Chiles; and seven siblings, Matie Lavina Helfritz, Willard Helfritz, Russell Helfritz, Otto Helfritz, Delmar Helfritz, Hazel Naversath and Gladys Jorgenson.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona, Iowa.
