David Michael Mattson-Fuller, 20, of Austin was charged on Tuesday in Mower County District Court with felony escape from custody.

According to the court complaint, an Austin police officer received a report at 10:04 p.m. on Thursday that Mattson-Fuller, who was the subject of felony intensive supervised release, had cut off his electronic monitoring equipment. The officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest, where Mattson-Fuller was staying with a relative. The relative told the officer she found the monitor near the front door and that Mattson-Fuller was not at the residence. She also said he had been communicating with a woman on Facebook.

The officer then spoke to the woman at her residence and advised her there was a warrant for Mattson-Fuller’s arrest, the complaint states.

Mattson-Fuller was not located at the residence. The woman said she had gone to see him earlier that day, but had not seen him since. She also said Mattson-Fuller had sent her a message saying he wanted to cut the monitor off and she had tried to “talk him out of it.”

The complaint states that another officer was advised early Saturday morning that Mattson-Fuller was at a residence in the 1000 block of Second Avenue Southwest. Officers maintained surveillance at an apartment complex in the area and saw several individuals, including Mattson-Fuller, leave an apartment and get into a car at 1:55 a.m. Police made a traffic stop on the car in the 400 block of Ninth Street Southwest and arrested Mattson-Fuller.

A review of Mattson-Fuller’s criminal record shows prior convictions for assault, theft, criminal damage to property, terroristic threats, fleeing an officer and disorderly conduct.

Mattson-Fuller will appear in court again on Nov. 5.
