Carrie J. Winkels, 93 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at Comforcare – Good Samaritan Society of Austin, surrounded by her loving family.

Carrie Jane Crichton was born on Nov. 22, 1924, in Leon, Iowa, the daughter of James and Clara (Severson) Crichton. She attended school in Adams, Minnesota, and Austin. On Sept. 10, 1942, Carrie married Raymond E. Winkels Sr. in Springfield, Missouri, and the marriage was blessed with six children. Carrie worked many years for Winkels Construction as a bookkeeper. As a young couple, Carrie and Raymond enjoyed dancing at the Terp. She enjoyed filling her free time playing Bingo and cards. Carrie spent many years wintering in Arizona and she also enjoyed summer trips up north. She was a unit member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. Carrie will be missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond Winkels Jr. of Austin, Eugene (Joann) Winkels of Sun City West, Arizona, and Fred Winkels of Austin; two daughters, Sandra (Lorimer) Nelson of Lyle, Minnesota, and Cynthia (Rodney) Johnson of Austin; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Crichton; her husband, Raymond E. Winkels, in 2005; son, Richard Winkels; and two brothers, William and James Crichton.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. Friends may greet the family from noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Austin.
