The Mower County Sheriff’s Office is warning the general public about another phone scam involving jury duty.

According to Sheriff Terese Amazi, the sheriff’s office received three calls in the past two days from residents reporting that a man called them claiming to be the sheriff. The scammer told the victims that a warrant had been issued for their arrest because they did not report for jury duty. The scammer then told them they needed to pay in order to avoid going to jail.

Amazi said the sheriff’s office does not call people to tell them they have a warrant and warned not to provide the scammer with any financial information.
