A 48-year-old Austin woman was mildly injured, but declined medical attention, after a turning pick-up truck accidentally hit her scooter on Wednesday morning.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers responded to a call at 8:19 a.m. on Wednesday of an accident at the intersection of First Drive and First Street Northwest.
A pick-up truck, driven by a 74-year-old man from rural Austin, was headed south on First Drive Northwest and accidentally struck a scooter while making a left turn onto First Street Northwest.
The woman driving the scooter received cuts and bruises, but declined medical attention from Gold Cross Ambulance Service, Krueger said. The scooter sustained damage, but was still operable.
The driver of the pick-up truck said the sun was in his eyes and he did not see the scooter. A witness told police that the sun was shining in that direction and that the truck was only going about 5-10 miles per hour when the accident occurred.
The victim said she did not see any vehicles at the intersection, according to Krueger.
No citations were issued.
