The Austin City Council will vote on authorizing the Toward Zero Deaths grant for 2018-19 during its next regular meeting on Monday.
The grant money will be used to pay overtime for law enforcement participating in the Toward Zero Deaths campaign, which involves periods of increased DWI and distracted driving enforcement.
The grant money will provide TZD funding for the fiscal year of Oct. 1, 2018 through Sept. 30, 2019.
The council will rank 11 Hormel Foundation grant applications from highest to lowest priority during its work session following the regular meeting. Grant applications submitted this year are for quality of life, fire prevention and education, targeted area redevelopment, poured-in-place surface for an existing playground, Jay C. Hormel Nature Center education programs, hotspot data plans, pickleball courts, electric vehicle promotion and fleet addition, Jay C. Hormel Nature Center master plan for regional significance, and Riverside Arena ice system commissioning and boiler replacement. The requested amount for all 11 applications is $718,500.
Administrative Services Director Tom Dankert will also discuss the 2019 budget with the council during the work session.
The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, in the Council Chambers, located in the basement of City Hall. The work session will be held immediately following the meeting in the conference room across the hall from the Council Chambers.
