Two businesses fail tobacco compliance checks; Citation includes a $75 fine

Star Liquor and Hy-Vee and were given citations by law enforcement after selling cigarettes to a minor.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, two Austin police officers, assisted by a juvenile, conducted tobacco compliance checks at 14 local businesses on Aug. 22. The juvenile went into the establishments and attempted to purchase tobacco products.
Apollo Liquor, D & J Ankeny Mini Mart, Casey’s General Store, Hiawatha Bar, Austin Liquor Store, Bell Liquor Store, Modern Smoke, Cheers Liquor, Walmart, Hy-Vee Gas, Torge’s Live Sports Pub and Grill and the Austin Country Club passed the compliance checks.
The failure was a first offense for both Hy-Vee and Star Liquor. They were fined $75.
