Pole barn total loss in Friday fire

A pole barn was completely destroyed, along with approximately $7,000 worth of hay and fencing material, during a fire on Friday morning.

According to Mower County Senior Sgt. Investigator Steve Sandvik, the Sheriff’s Office was called at 3:26 a.m. on Friday about a pole barn fire on the property of George Finnegan at 23335 570th Avenue.  The barn was 60’ x 80’ and contained in excess of 100 bales of hay and some fencing material was inside.

The Brownsdale Fire Department responded and was still in the process of clearing the scene at 8:45 a.m. on Friday.

The barn is a total loss and it is estimated that about $7,000 worth of hay and fencing material was lost, Sandvik said. The damage value to the barn is unknown at this time and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
