Ruben Trevino, 47, of Austin was charged on Tuesday in Mower County District Court with felony first-degree burglary-assault person in building/on property, felony first-degree burglary of an occupied dwelling, misdemeanor domestic assault-bodily harm and misdemeanor assault-fear of bodily harm.
According to the court complaint, police were called at 8:12 p.m. on Friday on a report that a woman had been assaulted at a residence in the 200 block of 12th Street Southeast. They made contact with the victim, who said Trevino had punched her in the face and fled the residence on a bicycle.
The woman claimed that Trevino had come over earlier and demanded money from her to pay for an air soft pistol of his that she had turned over to the police a few days prior, the complaint states. She told him to leave when she answered the door, but he pushed his way in, damaging the entertainment center that was behind the door. She said he punched her twice in the face before she pushed him out the door.
Police observed redness on the right side of her face and photographed her injuries and the damage to the entertainment center.
The complaint states that police arrested Trevino at 9:30 p.m. on Friday after they saw him riding his bicycle in the 1000 block of Third Avenue Northeast. Trevino said they had a fight because she owed him money, but denied assaulting her. An officer noted that Trevino appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.
A review of Trevino’s criminal history shows prior convictions for theft, burglary, cocaine sales, receiving stolen property, assault, check forgery, tamper with a motor vehicle/enter without owner permission, criminal damage to property and escape from custody.
Trevino will appear in court again on Sept. 10.
