Erick Scott Ulland, 30, of Austin was charged on Friday in Mower County District Court with felony fourth-degree assault on a peace officer-demonstrable bodily harm, gross misdemeanor obstructing the legal process-resist arrest-force/violence, misdemeanor domestic assault and petty misdemeanor possession of a small amount of marijuana.

According to the court complaint, police met with a relative of Ulland on Thursday at the Mower County Law Enforcement Center. She said Ulland had recently moved in with her, but she did not invite him to do so. She told police he was “very mean,” threatening her and threatening to damage her house and her vehicle, and that she believe he was “on drugs.” She said she asked him to leave several times, but he refused to do so. She also told police she found suspected drugs and wanted them to remove them from her house. Police advised her to get a restraining order and begin eviction procedures.
At 4:01 p.m. on Thursday, police arrived at the residence in the 700 block of 12th Avenue Southwest, the complaint states. The woman advised them that Ulland had been in the garage when she came home and had attempted to ram her vehicle with a Dodge pickup. Police went into the residence and advised Ulland they were there because of the drugs. Ulland denied having any drugs, but when the woman walked inside to retrieve them, he started yelling at her.
The complaint states police told Ulland to sit down, but he was non-compliant. An officer went to put his hand on Ulland’s chest and Ulland slapped it away. The officer then tried to handcuff Ulland, but he resisted and the two ended up on the ground. The officer was burned by Ulland’s cigarette and Ulland kicked him on the inner left thigh before he was finally handcuffed. The officer later observed a bruise where Ulland had kicked him.
The complaint states officers found a bag containing 18.62 grams of marijuana near the stove, 3.42 grams of suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms and a suspected marijuana pill in a cookie jar, and 72.28 grams of suspected “weed butter” in the freezer.
A review of Ulland’s criminal history shows a prior conviction for theft.
Ulland will appear in court again on Aug. 23.
