Law enforcement: ‘Secure your property’

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to secure their personal property after a generator was stolen on Wednesday in Racine.
According to Mower County Senior Sergeant Investigator Steve Sandvik, the generator was reported stolen at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The victim said the generator had been running in the front yard a few days prior to the theft. The victim noticed it was missing Wednesday morning.
The generator was a Honda EU 2000 model, according to Sandvik.
There are no suspects at this time.
The Austin Police Department is also reminding residents to secure their property due to a recent rash of thefts from unlocked garages and vehicles, There has also been an increase in stolen bike reports.
“As the summer picks up, it seems like we’re seeing a bike theft or theft from a vehicle on a daily basis,” said Austin Police Capt. David McKichan. “We also see a lot of garage thefts. They all relate to property being unsecured.”
McKichan said potential thieves will go door-to-door checking which ones are unlocked.
“There are a lot of people out this summer, so the message is to make sure your property is locked,” he said.
