Edwin E. Burger, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.

Edwin Ernest was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Clay Center, Kansas, to Karl and Stella (Jacobs) Burger. Edwin attended Clay Center schools before entering the U.S. Navy on March 2, 1945. Following his honorable discharge on March 8, 1946, he returned home and continued farming with his

father. On March 27, 1949, Edwin was united in marriage to Rhoda Schultze at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Edwin and Rhoda lived and farmed in Clay Center for the first nine years of their marriage. In 1958, they moved to their Lansing Township farm in Mower County, Minnesota, and have remained on their farm for the last 60 years. He was an active longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin and a former member of the Grandview Cemetery Board in Austin.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rhoda of Austin; children, Margaret Fogelberg of Edina, Minnesota, Mark (Marian) Burger of Tucson, Arizona, Paul Burger of Austin, Jeffrey Burger of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Kathleen (Dennis) Kreatz of Red Lodge, Montana; grandchildren, Leah Fogelberg, Laura (Tyler) Lineburg, Douglas Burger, Amelia Burger, Molly Kreatz, Jacob Kreatz, Charissa Wheeler, Savannah Wheeler and Shane (Bryna) Wheeler; brothers, William Burger of Palmer, Kansas, and Leroy Burger of Del Ray Beach, Florida; and sisters, Dorothy Harris of Fort Dodge, and Mable Bunday of Hamel, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Larry LaDassor officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and will continue for one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
