Juan Manuel Gloria Jr., 37, of Austin was charged on Thursday in Mower County District Court with two counts of felony domestic assault.
According to court documents, Mower County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at 7:42 p.m. on Wednesday in the 73000 block of 140th Street in Lodi Township. A woman reported that Gloria “went after” one of her children and pushed her when she tried to get between him and the child. When deputies arrived, they found Gloria sitting outside of a camper.
The woman said that Gloria had been increasingly agitated over the past few days and they had been arguing, according to court documents. She alleged that he “shoved” her and when her 8-year-old son came to investigate and said something to Gloria, Gloria “lunged” at him. She also alleged that he pushed her as she tried to get between them. She then took her children to her car because she believed Gloria would harm her.
Gloria told deputies that they had been arguing and she “charged” at him and started “grabbing” him when he tried to leave, according to court documents. He allegedly said he shoved her so he could leave.
Court documents state Gloria then changed his story, saying the woman wanted him out of the camper, so he asked her to give him a ride to Austin, at which point she grabbed him and he pushed her aside. He denied lunging at the child, saying the child was there when he opened the camper door and the woman grabbed him again because she thought he was going after him.
A review of Gloria’s criminal record shows prior convictions for assault and third-degree criminal sexual conduct-victim mentally impaired/helpless.
Gloria will appear in court again on July 3.
