Austin firefighters were called to the scene of a southeast Austin home late Thursday morning for a kitchen fire.
Emergency personnel responded to the call at around 10:20 a.m. after the occupants of the home called because a loud pop had been heard followed by the stove catching on fire.
Officers reported that smoke was visible coming from the house. Inside the house, flames were visible in the kitchen.
“It started at the range,” said Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy. “We’re just not sure what came together to get the fire going.”
A mother and her baby were home at the time, but made it out of the house safely. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation with both the state fire marshal and insurance investigators looking into the blaze.
Damage amounts are estimated at $10,000 for the home and $5,000 for content of the home, according to McCoy.
