Donald Roy Kolpin, 90

Donald Roy Kolpin, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, June 3, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
He was born May 16, 1928, in Austin, the son of William and Lillian (Soucek) Kolpin. After his 1946 graduation from Austin High School, Donald attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, graduating in 1951. In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Don served in Germany and played in the Army Band. Donald and Betty Ann Johnson were married on June 5, 1948, in Austin. The couple lived in Austin, where Don worked as a waterworks engineer for the City of Austin. He then began working for Hormel Foods Corporation as a mechanical engineer and remained until his retirement. His wife, Betty, passed away June 5, 2013. In his leisure time, Don enjoyed hunting and fly-fishing. He played in the Austin City Band and was a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Don will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Rodney A. (Vickie) Kolpin of Waseca, Minnesota; his daughters, Wendy S. (David) Winders of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Mary J. (Jeffrey) Rugg of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Garrett (Amanda) Kolpin, Tyler Kolpin, Molly (Brian) Kant, Jaime (Corey) Pedri and Morgan (Adam) LePine; six great-grandchildren, Elise Kolpin, Peter Kolpin, William Kant, Cora and Colson Pedri and Landon LePine; other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; his brother, Maynard; and three sisters, Mildred Hanson, Winifred Owens and Marcella Hjelman.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Karen Behling officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. The family prefers memorials to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the American Juvenile Diabetes Association, or recipient of donor’s choice.
