Packer boys track and field team wins home triangular

The Austin boys track and field team had plenty of motivation as it came up with some big performances when it took first place in home triangular at Larry Gilbertson Track and Field Tuesday.

For Austin thrower Thomas Kroymann, who took first in the shot put with a PR throw of 47 feet, two inches, and first in the discus, said his motivation was a simple one.

“Coach said he’d cook me a steak if I threw well today. Plus going to true team I saw kids pumping out throws of 50 feet and I want to get there,” Kroymann said. “I PR’d a couple of weeks ago and I hadn’t been able to get back there. I went through practice and changed a few things. Now I’ve got another PR today. It was nice.”

Jacob Steinbach, a junior, continued on his solid season as he took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.73 seconds.

I’ve been putting in time and practice and working really hard. The team has been very helpful and they’ve been a big part of my success,” Steinbach said. “Last year I was alright, but I wanted to do better so practice over the summer, I worked out and I lifted. It’s so much better this year. When you cross the line first, there’s no better feeling. It’s awesome.”
