According to the court complaint, officers were called at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday to the Austin Walmart on a report that a loss prevention officer witnessed Olson cutting open a cell phone box and removing the phone while inside the store. Olson had been trespassed from Walmart on Aug. 21 and was not allowed to be in the store.

Officers located Olson, who said she had used a knife to cut open the cell phone box, according to the complaint. She allegedly said she intended to steal the phone, but then dumped it in the toy section. Officers allegedly found the knife in the front pocket of her sweatshirt.

The loss prevention officer said she followed Olson because she knew she was not supposed to be in the store, according to the complaint. She said Olson went into the electronics department and allegedly started tampering with a phone on the shelf. She sent an associate to assist Olson, who said she did not need assistance. Olson then removed the phone with the knife and placed it in her pocket, according to the loss prevention officer.

A review of Olson’s criminal record shows prior convictions for theft, shoplifting, check forgery, intentional damage to property, disorderly conduct and drug possession.

She will appear in court again on April 23.
