Get to Know: Hayfield softball player Maggie Streightiff

Maggie Streightiff is a senior outfielder on the Hayfield softball team.

Q: What sports do you compete in?

A: Volleyball, basketball and softball.

Q: How did you originally get into softball?

A: I was in T-ball when I was young then I started softball in fourth grade with my friends. We were called the Blugolds and Ms. Ruekert was our coach.

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: My favorite sports memory was beating Faribault B.A. in the subsection championship for volleyball [in 2016]. Another favorite memory was going to state in softball the past three years, it’s an unexplainable feeling.

Q: What have you learned from sports?

A: From playing sports, I have learned that nothing is given. You have to work hard and earn your sport. Sports have had a huge impact on my life, teaching me work ethic, respect and responsibility. It also has helped my time management and teamwork skills.

Q: What is the hardest part about softball?

A: The hardest part about softball is the mentality going into the batter’s box and being bale to keep your composure during a key situation.

Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?

A: My sports role model is [Team USA volleyball player] Micha Hancock because she is a left-handed setter and I strive to play like her. She knows the game and works hard for every point.

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A: “Dumb and Dumber” and “Friends” is my favorite TV show.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: Lunch would come first, then student aiding in Mrs. Krekling’s class.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: Sports psychologist.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Popcorn and spaghetti.

Q: What are your plans after high school?

A: Attend Upper Iowa University to play volleyball. Undecided on major.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you or hobby you enjoy most people don’t know about?

A: I love skiing and I love my dogs.

Q: What are your top three pump songs before a big game?

A: I like all sorts of music. Country is one of my favorites.

Q: What are your top three guilty pleasure songs?

A: Christmas music.
