The Forte Milers Barbershop Chorus will present “Doo Wop, Barbershop and Family Harmony” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 22 at the Historic Paramount Theatre in Austin.
The show will feature classic songs from the 1950s and 1960s, such as “In the Still of the Night,” “Come Go with Me,” “Stand by Me,” “Under the Boardwalk,” and a medley of Beach Boys songs.
The Forte Milers are part of the Barbershop Harmony Society and includes singers from across southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa. The Forte Milers have been presenting their annual show at the Paramount since 2007.
The family harmony part of the show will feature two groups of family singers. The Benson Family Singers are a family music group from Faribault; Peter and Rachelle, along with their four sons, David, Aaron, Luke and Paul present barbershop, bluegrass and gospel music. They specialize in tight, a cappella harmonies and also play a variety of instruments, including guitar, banjo, bass, violin and mandolin. The Sopha Sisters from Cresco, Iowa, were “Sprout Champions” in 2014 at the Iowa State Fair’s Bill Riley Talent Competition; since then, they have performed for audiences all over the region.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show. Student tickets are $5 and children age 5 and under are free.
