Former councilwoman, civic leader dies; Gloria Nordin passes away at age 85, served several years on City Council

Gloria Nordin, whose involvement in Austin political, civic and philanthropic organizations was almost legendary, has died.

Nordin, 85, of Austin, served several terms on the Austin City Council, taught elementary school for a time, and was active as chairwoman of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation, was president of the American Foundation for Vision Awareness and served as president of the Austin Community College Foundation Board.

She also served on boards for the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Summerset Theatre and Matchbox Children’s Theatre, among many others.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard Nordin and family.
