Riverland Community College head baseball coach Scott Koenigs is going to make this year his last one with the team. After coaching the Blue Devils to six conference titles, three state championships, and two NJCAA World Series appearances, Koenigs is going to walk away from the job.

“It is a difficult decision as I have been lucky enough to work with and get to know a lot of super families and awesome players because of the great game of baseball,” Koenigs said. “The last 15 years has been very rewarding and the accomplishments of my players have been fun to be a part of. I have coached some incredible players and have developed lifelong friendships with some of them. It is incredibly gratifying to watch the guys move on and play ball at four-year colleges, attend their weddings and watch them become fathers.”
Koenigs has coached seven All-Americans, two national gold glove players and approximately 100 of his players have gone on to play at four-year schools. He has compiled a record career record of 371-195 and the Blue Devils have been ranked in the top-10 in the nation in each of the last eight years.
Koenigs plans to continue to stay at RCC and teach sociology. He said the multiple tasks of recruiting, coaching and fund raising have become too much for him to keep up with.
“It has become increasingly more stressful dealing with all of these things and having a small budget with increasing costs,” Koenigs said.
