Austin Police K9 handler Officer Derek Ellis and his dog, Rudy, placed first at K9 trials on Saturday in Wright County.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, Ellis teamed up with Houston County Sheriff’s deputy Lt. Tracy Erickson.
Rudy scored 198.5 out of 200 possible points, earning them a win as a regional team.
“Officer Ellis and K9 Rudy continue to perform at a high level for us,” Krueger said. “We’re very proud of what they’ve done in the short time they’ve been with us.”
The trials are conducted to make sure the dogs are certified to serve on K9 units.
