ROCHESTER — The No. 9 seeded Blooming Prairie boys basketball team had trouble matching up with top-seeded Rushford-Peterson in a 56-33 loss in a Section 1A quarterfinal game in Mayo Civic Center in Rochester Tuesday.

The Trojans (21-7 overall) opened the game on a 17-4 burst over a 10-minute stretch and they opened the second half on a 16-4 run over a nine-minute spurt.

“I think the kids felt maybe they had to be a little bit too perfect at times and we didn’t make some bunnies that we would normally make,” BP head coach Nate Piller said. “It’s such a good team and you have to play defense so long against their offense. They break you down and they get the shots they want to get. It’s hard to find a lot of faults with what they do.”

Karson Vigeland, a sophomore forward, paced BP with 14 points as he was effective inside the paint.

“He’s a hard worker,” Piller said. “He’s a smart player and he knows where the openings should be. He’s shown steady improvement and he does a lot of good things.”

Vigeland is part of a big sophomore class for BP as the team will bring back much of its roster next season. He’s hoping the Awesome Blossoms will continue to make big strides.

“We want to keep getting better every day. We want to get shots up in the morning and keep playing over the summer to improve,” Vigeland said. “It had been three years since we played [in Civic Center] and it was exciting to play here. It was a great season.”
