Packers fall to Delano, will play third place game Saturday

MINNEAPOLIS – The Austin boys basketball team lost to Delano 80-68 in the Minnesota Class AAA semifinals in Target Center.

The Tigers used a 12-2 run early in the second half to go up 51-35 and the Packers never got closer than seven the rest of the way.

Austin was as close as 29-28 when Medi Obang hit a three-pointer with 4:40 left in the first half.

Delano’s Calvin Wishart, who had 29 points, 19 rebounds and seven assists, gave the Tigers early momentum when he converted a four-point play after to put the Tigers up 20-12 while drawing the second foul on Duoth Gach, who finished with 17 points, early in the game.

Austin rallied back to get within 22-20 after Ngor Deng hit a pair of deep threes with 8:46 left in the first half.

Austin will play DeLaSalle in the third place game in Concordia University at 2 p.m. Saturday.
