Kuma Negesso Badhasa, 34, of Austin was charged on Tuesday in Mower County District Court with felony terroristic threats and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault.
According to the court complaint, an officer was dispatched at 2:37 p.m. on Sunday to the 200 block of 31st Street Southwest regarding a domestic assault in progress. The officer made contact with a woman who said she was asleep, but woke up because Badhasa was allegedly trying to twist her arm. She said he threatened to kill her and grabbed the front off her shirt, twisting it upward toward her throat. He also allegedly struck her in the face with an open hand. The woman said Badhasa was “angry all the time” and that he had assaulted her in the past.
Badhasa had left the residence before the officer arrived, according to the report. He was later arrested during a traffic stop in the 2700 block of West Oakland Avenue.
Badhasa will appear in court again on March 19.
