According to the court complaint, police were called at 11:50 a.m. on Friday to a residence in the 800 block of Ninth Street Southeast. A woman at the residence said Patterson had damaged her car while he was sleeping in it the previous night.

Patterson had been threatening the woman’s boyfriend the night before, so she locked him out of the residence, according to the complaint. She said he was not welcome in the residence, so he slept in her car.

The vehicle allegedly had a cracked windshield, a crack in the dashboard and a broken off rear view mirror.

The woman said Patterson told her he did the damage while he was sleeping, according to the complaint. The vehicle was registered to another woman, who told police she wanted to press charges.

Dispatch contacted Patterson’s probation officer, who said he wanted Patterson arrested and placed on a 72-hour hold for violating his probation, according to the complaint. Patterson initially told police the vehicle already had the damage, but when police told him they were told he caused the damage while sleeping in the vehicle, he allegedly said that might have been the case.

An estimate from an auto repair shop allegedly showed $610.48 worth of damages.

A review of Patterson’s criminal history shows prior convictions for drug possession, theft, tampering with a motor vehicle, damage to property, violating predatory offender registration requirements, obstructing officer duties, disorderly conduct, domestic assault and violating a domestic abuse no contact order. He is currently awaiting sentencing for felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, felony failure to register as a predatory offender and felony violating a domestic abuse no contact order within 10 years of two or more convictions.

Patterson will appear in court again on March 19.
