Clifford R. Stoen Jr., 82

Clifford R. Stoen Jr., 82, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, March 19, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

Cliff was born April 10, 1935, in Clear Lake, Iowa, to Clifford B. and Edna (Bowman) Stoen. He attended school in Clemmons, Iowa. His family called him Junior. They moved to Brownsdale, Minnesota, in the late 1940s.

Cliff served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War for over 3 ½ years. He was in the 84th Engineers Division as an operator of heavy equipment. Cliff was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW.

In July 1955, Cliff was united in marriage to Margaret “Elaine” Norton and together they raised six children. Cliff was a truck driver and a dairy farmer. They sold their farm in Osakis, Minnesota, in 1983 and moved back to Austin. He worked for Warren Harrington as a semi driver until he had a mini stroke and retired.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; children, William (Michele), Gloria McKinstry (Robert), Patricia Hanscom (Mike), Phyllis Asmus (Gorden), Robert (fiancée Brianna), and Sheila Blake (Robert); 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother; and a sister.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph; sister, Eileen; grandson, Robert C. Stoen Jr.; sisters-in-law; and brothers-in-law.

A celebration of life for Cliff will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018, at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
