Seven area wrestlers are headed to state

Seven area wrestlers punched their ticket to the state wrestling meet on Saturday. An Austin and GMLOS wrestler accomplished that feat at the Section 1A and Section 1AAA meets in Mayo Civic Center in Rochester and five Westfield wrestlers stepped up at the Section 2A meet in LeSuer-Henderson.

Austin junior Isaac Arjes earned his first ever trip to the state meet when he pinned Parker Holton in a state-qualifying 220-pound match. Arjes took his first loss of the season when he was beaten by tech. fall by Austin Rendler of Faribault in the semifinals.

Parker Hale of GMLOS beat Game Speltz of Rushford-Peterson 3-0 in the 120-pound title match to get to state.

Westfield’s Ethan Arett earned a trip to state at 106-pounds when he beat USC’s Bryce Sonnek 7-3 a state qualifying match, Colton Krell advanced to state when he won the 160-pound title match when he beat Jeremiah Colon of Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 9-0, Morgen Moreno advanced to state when he won the 195-pound title match with a pin over David Loeffler of Saint Clair-Mankato Loyola, Dylan Nirk advanced to state at 220-pounds by the ‘true second’ rule after he was pinned by Will Storch of WEM-JWP in the finals and Mitchell Oswald advanced to state at 285-pounds when he beat Jesse Jackson of Kenyon-Wanamingo 5-0 in a state qualifying match.

Austin’s Josh Belden lost his semifinal match his semifinal match on e tech. fall against Zac Janz of Farmington at 152-pounds, Kaden Igou was pinned by Owatonna’s Parker Wetphal in the 170-pound semifinals, Phillip Zynda lost by injury default to Owatonna’s Nick Staska in the 195-pound semifinals,

Anthony Romero of GMLOS took third at 106-pounds after he lost a state qualifying match 10-2 to Michael Majerus, Donavan Felton took third at 126-pounds after he was pinned by Mike Vath of Zumbrota-Mazeppa in a state qualifying match, and Clayton Luthe took third at 285-pounds as he lost his semifinal match 6-4 to Ben Tentis of Wabasha-Kellogg.
