Austin resident Matthew Bina won a $100,000 prize Saturday on the Minnesota Vikings scratch game from the Minnesota State Lottery.
According to a news release from the Lottery, Bina purchased three of the tickets and won $7. He decided to use the prize money to purchase one more ticket and took it back to his truck to play.
Bina uncovered what he thought was a $1,000 win.
“I was really excited and then I put my glasses on and saw that it was $100,000,” he said. “I started crying — I’m not lying — it’s something I’ve been dreaming about for years.”
To be sure that it really was a $100,000 winning ticket, Bina went back into the store to get a second opinion.
“I showed it to the young man who was working and he gave me a high five and said, ‘Mister, you just won $100,000! That’s for real!’ He was ecstatic because it was the first really big ticket he has ever sold,” said Bina.
D&J Ankeny Mini Mart, located at 902 12th St. SW in Austin, sold the winning ticket.
Bina claimed the prize at the Minnesota Lottery’s headquarters in Roseville on Feb. 7.
