No injuries in car fire

No one was injured after a silver 2014 Chevy Impala caught fire on Sunday evening,

According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, a Mower County deputy responded to a report of a car fire at 5:20 p.m. on Sunday on 690th Avenue just north of 325th Street, about seven to eight miles north of Dexter just over the Olmsted County line.

The vehicle’s driver, Jared Thomas Maxwell, 33, of Pine City was outside the vehicle when the deputy arrived. He told the deputy he was driving south on 690th Avenue when he noticed smoke coming from the vents. He drove the car into a ditch to avoid blocking the roadway.

The Grand Meadow Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. Maxwell declined medical attention.

The vehicle was a total loss.
